Sayaboury Province is located in the Northwest of the country, and covers all the area west of the Mekong River. Its capital city is Sayabouly. Its area is 16.398 Km2 and its population is 382.200 inhabitants with the density of 23 imhabitants/Km2. It is bordered by Oudomxay Province to the north, Luang Prabang and Vientiane Province to the east, and (from the south clockwise) the Thai provinces Loei, Phitsanulok, Uttaradit, Nan and Phayao. The province is quite mountainous and the roads are not good expect for one north-south route extending from the provincial capital to the Thai border opposite Thailand’s Loei Province. It composes of 10 districts.
